Best House in Byron

We found Barefoot at Brokenhead after researching luxury houses in the Byron Bay area for our NYE 2013 celebrations that were pet-friendly and could comfortably sleep a larger group of adults. After doing a lot of comparisons with other properties in the area, we decided Barefoot was for us based on its location and the beautiful online photos and reviews. The photos were very enticing but in all honesty, did not do it full justice – the place is amazing! It truly is your own private tropical resort, within a minute of the beach, with luxury split-level pool, open plan living space, high-end appliances, and lush green rainforest gardens enclosing each pavilion. The place is big enough to give every person or couple their own space, but allows plenty of places to meet and share time – the living area opens up into a fully open-air space with a huge couch for reading, watching DVDs, playing games or my favourite…napping! The place is littered with all kinds of great books and quite a few of us ploughed through the available novels rather than read our own books. We also took advantage of the relaxing environment and arranged for a local massage therapist to come for the day and give massages to the whole group. Even she commented that Barefoot was in her view and experience, “the best house in Byron”. Being only 10 minutes drive from Byron Bay town means you are far enough away from the summer crowds but close enough to drop in for necessities, restaurants or just to soak up the carefree anything-goes vibe of the town. Bangalow is also a short drive and a great place to spend a day. At the end of the week everyone was reluctant to leave this beautiful house and go back to our shoeboxes in Sydney! We felt we really got value for money for our week long vacation based on the location, the beautiful home and totally relaxing atmosphere. We will definitely be back!

Tranquil Bliss

Luke and I were married on Saturday 23 November. 'Tranquil bliss' is how we would describe our stay at Barefoot at Broken head. No stone was left unturned in accommodating our needs not only as holidaying guests but in providing the facility for our wedding reception be it rain, hail or shine (and indeed we had all three!). A short walk through lush rainforest leads to one of the most beautiful of Australian beaches and provided the most amazing backdrop to our wedding ceremony. Waves from the beach can be heard as one awakes and retires of the evening which can only be described as heaven! We couldn't ask for a more perfect property and location to host such a significant day in ones life.

Our Winter Wedding

We held our wedding and reception at Barefoot at Broken Head on the 10th of August 2013. On the morning of our wedding the boys went for a swim at the beach and the girls relaxed in the sun beside the pool. A relaxed morning at Barefoot was a perfect start to our special day. Our beach ceremony was held at the end of the bush track and our guests walked back to the house for a cocktail style reception in the beautiful gardens within the Barefoot property. Tim (the owner of Barefoot) was professional and easy to deal with regarding our booking at Barefoot and had many local tips that assisted us with the wedding planning. If you are looking for a wedding venue that is intimate and relaxed and is located in a beautiful coastal setting then we recommend that you consider Barefoot at Broken Head.

Wedding Perfection

My fiancé James and I live in North Western Queensland and chose Barefoot at Broken Head for our venue as soon as we saw the house - the incredible open spaces, the quality of all fixtures, furnishings and architecture - such a magnificent place. We organised the Wedding from 2000km's away. Obviously for a Bride, being so far away from the venue and all of your suppliers makes for some serious stress and a lot of what if's? We really were walking into this wedding blind. All of the suppliers connected to Barefoot were so helpful and continuously eased my mind - by the time we were ready to head to Barefoot 2 days before the wedding I was of the mantra "It will work out" - I knew the team had us covered. The day of the wedding was absolutely seamless. It astounded me how everything was done without me noticing, requesting or signalling - it was as if Fran (house manager) and Jackie (Eat Drink co-ordinator) could read my mind. Our day was exquisite. The garden was a fairy tale at dusk when the candles were lit and the fairy lights turned on and the deck provided not only a place to mingle but the special spot where James and I had our first dance as a married couple. The house in itself is serious luxury. Everything about our week at Barefoot feels like a perfect dream. We can't wait to come back again!

We recently stayed for a week over Easter. I was reticent to write, only because I didn't want to share this most amazing holiday house and setting. But when you pay top dollar and still feel like you are getting good value then a place deserves to succeed.

The property leaves nothing to be desired - plenty of space for everyone to do their own thing and communal areas for everyone to come back together (or not) for meals, music, drinks, dancing, movies, and whatever else may take your fancy. Beds are too comfortable, lounges are even more comfortable - and they are everywhere! Outdoor & private bathing areas, four separate living quarters each with its own bathroom / music center - linens are all provided and top quality.
You have one of the most unspoiled beaches (swimming & surfing) on the Far North Coast of NSW at your backdoor (literally), hit the beach, turn left and walk less than 300m & there you have yet another unspoiled & quiet swimming spot (ti tree lake). Walking tracks up to the headland with fantastic views (& secret beaches!), great fishing, biking (yes you can do that on the beach at low tide - bikes are provided). Did I mention the lap pool -and the lazing-about pool (well that what we called it), after a day at the beach or at the shops in the not to far away (but far enough away) Byron Bay, you can come home to the luxury of the outdoor entertainment area and kick back & relax with a book.

The kitchen is any cook / chef's dream with all the accouterments to make you look like you know what you are doing, Books galore, DVD's galore, games galore & there is even a laundry that would make any domestic goddess shiver with glee (ie the washing machine & dryer are spectacular).
It truly is paradise (did I say how beautiful the gardens are?) and I doubt very much that you would be able to find anything on par with it either here or overseas without spending up very, very big.

Best holiday we have had for a long time and we will be going back again very soon.

Barefoot is a beautiful, stylish and very comfortable home. A great location for a quiet and relaxing holiday away from the hubbub of Byron although close enough to enjoy shopping and restaurants. Each guest was able to find their peace either in one of the pavilions or amongst the tropical garden…. if not at the beach or exquisite tea tree lake nearby…… bliss! PS We were recommended Simon Ruffell to cook 2 dinners we wanted help with….. a really lovely way to enhance our stay!
